Many cats that have medium to long hair could benefit from being shaved down. People are often not aware that it can be done or what health issues can be prevented. Clients with cats that won't allow brushing are happy to see their cats free of mats and often report "The cat just feels better". If a cat is having frequent issues with vomiting hairballs or constipation from hair we will often suggest they be shaved and see what happens. The hair grows back so if the clients don't like the look they'll have the old look again. However the comfort of the cat is more important than looks so you need to look at the cat's side.
